not sure... id probably steer clear of the partiots if you were me, but im not trying to say i know everything about both. maybe you could wait a little while and get some used AFRs off of ebay or something.
thats a good idea i didnt think about that i am curious though people keep telling me that i should go with the 165cc heads for on the street and that the 185cc would be no good for on the street can you tell me anything about that!
if you werent going to be above 5000 a whole lot, i would get 165's. you would need a bigger cam for the 185's and run higher rpms and a light car wouldnt hurt. someone else probably will have more info than i do, but i dont see you needing 185's.
185cc heads are not a bad size on a 347/351 IMO, but they are a bit large for a smaller motor if you want a street friendly powerband. Also look at the offerings from Dart, their iron heads can't be beat on a performance/$$ basis, and they have a full line of aluminum heads as well.
thanks doug for the heads up i checked it out and it is definetly worth some more research. Today i talked to an old hot rodder and asked him about the 185cc heads and he said the only thing he could think of being a problem was at low rpms there might be a velocity problem with the incoming air fair enough i said but how about with a 347 or possibly a 408 that was rapping out to around 6500 rpms and he said definetly go with the 185s cause the 165 couldnt flow enough volume with that size motor at that kind of revs so i still have time before the parts are ordered so careful consideration with be made there was mention of a cam that would be needed for the 185s im planning on the big ***** thumper from comp cams you can check it out at there web site it might seem a little childish but really other then a big nasty idle it makes good power as so testd by hot rod mag yes they could be biased but you never know for sure anyhow my back up is the extreme energy 286 or what ever which but again im still doing my home work forsure thanks for your input any more ideas would be great o and more food for thought i heard some aluminum roller rockers were no good for streetable use i heard they break easy and at random any thougths?
Anybody tried Comp´s new Thumpr cam ? - FordMuscle.com Forums
...I was one of the first to get a thumper cam from Comp. When I ran one it was as good or better than the same duration etreme energy hyd roller. When they started testing they found the same thing. It works very well because they are all ground on 107 lobe centers.. I now use them in all the street engines I build. I do use the 235 duration in most cases, but the big ***** thumper(243) is the best I have run yet It made 571 HP in a 383 Chevy on pump gas. They are VERY GOOD.

Joe knows his stuff, if he's high on the Thumpr you can be sure it runs like a scalded ape.
Well, it's all relative. "Big" runners on a 347 are "small" runners on a 429. Make sure the combo you choose suits how you'll actually be driving the car rather than shooting for the biggest dyno numbers.
My Mustang came with a Comp 292h cam (244* duration at .050"). It's not especially fun to drive in traffic stop light to stop light and it pitches and spits (the spitting is figurative, of course) at "normal" highway speeds. One of these days I'm going to swap it for an XE274 cam (230/236* @ .050"). I expect to pick up some hp (it's a newer grind) and drop the power band down ~1,000 to a more street friendly range.

I've heard some of those Chineese rockers break. You should'nt have any problems with Ford, Crane or any brand name rockers. They are factory equipment on Cobra mustangs.
another thought just popped into the old think tank im definetly going with a 347 or 408 short block i dont think they can be beat for price and reliability but the question i now pose is who to get it from so far i have been looking into coast high performance priced right around 3 grand for a 600 hundred horse capable short block with 4340 everything but i just started looking at dss racing they produce everything in house as far as rotating assemblies and such where as chp uses other products probe pistons scat cranks, etc they are similiar in price but how to decide on which to go with? My biggest question at the moment!
PLEASE HELP!
