Is it very hard to replace the mains & rods bearings with motor still in trk?
I know all about jacking up the motor to remove the pan. Done that twice on 2 other trks to replace oil pumps. What I really want to know is how hard it is to slide the upper bearing out from the crank. Do they come out fairly easy?
And it would be near impossible to measure the middle half of the bearing clearances. . .and you wouldn't be able to pull the crank to at least have it polished.

I second this suggestion.Possible yes,,very smart or easy NO
I would not recommend that you attempt this. I've been party to attempts like this when I was in the used car business. 100% failure rate (at least with us) after a short period of time if you use this method.
To answer your question all you have to do is put something like a flat head nail or bent piece of wire into the oil hole in the crank journal and rotate the crank to turn the bearing shell out. Is it wise? That`s up to you.

I think i bought a vehicle off of that lot once...
I've done it many times on big trucks, and heavy equipment. Very tight space to work in on these pick ups. If you can get the pan off and get the caps off it can be done.
