need help/ride height

Hey all,
Ok....where to start.

I'm in the process of installing Fatman MII front end in my 55. Have crossmember and top shock tower in place. The question is where to go now? I want to next hoist my motor and trans in place so I can get my motor mount and trans crossmember welded in place. I need to know where my ride height will be so I can get the motor in level. How do I know what the ride height will be without installing the rest of the front suspension?

Just confused......

Any help would be greatfull. I just don't want to do one step before the other is needed.

Thanks,
Kevin

Sorry, but in my uninformed opinion I think that the best way is to install the rest of the front suspension. Then you have somewhere to work from.

its not easy without the rest of the stuff thats for sure..

see this thread https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...terline-2.html

fergusonicford's post with the measurements..

I put the suspension parts on, measured to center of wheel hub,
(not wheels/tires at the time), and then adjusted the chassis from there.

Kevin...Dude...Wheres your gallery? Just starting this project are ya?...

Welcome to FTE! You will probably find the answers your looking for if you search the archives and abuse the search function, in the meantime, keep an open mind and try to focus on how "you" want "your " ride to look like....kind of a side-view in particular...

The "EASY" way, is to just "TACK" the beast together, just mocking things up, once the eng/trans is in place and adding weight to the front suspension...with the body on the frame...determine the rear frame HT(where "you" want it) and then fit the rear suspension ...and finally the drive-line angles (eng/trans/pinion angle)

I guessed that your not some kind of engineer, or you would not have asked the
"where to go?" question....have no fear!! But carry a healthy respect for Physics, Geometry and a little Math. Use all resources available to answer your questions "BEFORE" commiting to the final choice , the search function will be a great asset.....Welcome! and Good Luck!

Well not really just starting. Just getting back on the project after about 2 to 3 years of sitting. I just have to start over and rethink everything that I had planned 2 years ago.

I have my wheels just no tires. I'm not sure what tires I'll be able to use yet so that throws me off on the end result of ride height.

Also I will be changing rear ends. So I've also got to figure out how wide the rear has to be.......

Sam,
I will be running 18's on front and 20's on rear. What backspace does your wheels have??

Thanks all,
Kevin

Hey Kevin, what ever ride height you come up with just remember one thing, it has to ride nice so you can take that pretty little baby with you, later Garry

the backspace on the front is 3.5 (18x7) and on the rear is 5.5 (20x10)

Discount tire has a great site for comparing size combos.
Tire Dimensions Made Simple - Discount Tire Co.

then tkae the total height, divide by 2 to get the center, and put your axles there, and measure from that..

on my 20x10, the overal diameter is 28.68, so 14.35 to the center
on the 18x7 its 27.04, to 13.5 center..
