Okay so I bought a 93 4x4 F150 XLT about 1-2 months ago. it has about 152K miles on the body and only about 8500 on the factory installed 302 motor and has been serviced about every 3000 miles(is due again). so even though it is 15 years old it still runs like new. It has a.. 4 in. suspension SkyJacker lift, 33in BFG tires(about 800 miles in), Ion wheels, Air Lift airbags on the rear, and so on.
The problem im having is that when ever i have to make a slight left hand curve, it feels like im in 4 Wheel drive with the hubs locked driving on cement. the cab will bounce and hop to the point where i will have to straighten out a little bit as i go around the corner or slow down to about 15-20. Im pretty sure(not 100%) that its only the front drivers side that is the problem. its quite scary going up hill wich is about 75% of the time this happens.
I took it in to the Ford dealership(didnt solve anything). They replaced the right front ball joints and the front brake pads, resurfaced rotors and rear drums, packed the 4x4 hubs and bearings, and replaced the brake master cylinder, then flushed the brake system. $700
So after all that, anyone have any ideas why this is happening?
You state they fixed and lubed the front end and installed new ball joints, was the u-joint just behind the front wheel found to in good shape?
And are both of them in good shape?
The center joint could be froze up some but would not be likely to create the issues you describe. One or both of the outer u-joints may though.
Having the ball joints out for replacement they would have had the axle out to do it, they should have replaced it at that time. u-joints are cheap, labor/time spent to get to them is not, especially them u-joints.
Right front apart? Center joint should have been done right along with the outer joint on a 15+ year old truck if it is still the "stock part" in there, could very well be at that.
The center joint can be replaced working under the truck while the outer shaft assy is already out.
