fuel level guage problem

I have a problem with my fuel level guage on my truck. I pulled the tank and redid the entire fuel system with a regulated return system with a new pump and dual filters and everything else. when I got it all back together and started the truck everythign was working good, except teh full guage was on ful tank and I knew this was bad becouse I only put 5 gallons back in it. so I figgured I jacked up the level sender in the tank while it was apart before. I dropped the tank again tonight to try and fix it. I checked the sending unit and its working fine, but the gauge still says 'full", and that is with the tank out of the truck. I would assume that with the tank out that the gauge should read empty. Does anyone have any idea what I could look at for this? I looked at the wire bundle and it looks good. tomorrow I'll disconnect the batterys and see if it resets. The only thing I can think is that the instrument panel is bad. The guage isn't controlled by the computer is it? I need to get this fixed as I'm driving to Florida next month and am going to be extreamly busy til then.

are all the wires plugged in?? it could also be the float got stuck in the full position when moving the tank around...
you can check the wires to be sure...here is a write up on getting the ohms read..
