I just had the motor (dealer called it the 4x4 selinoid) replaced yesterday under warranty and it looked like it was bolted to the transfer case and a power supply plug attached to it.
the t-case motor is easy to replace...just need some patience, needlenose pliers and a really really small flathead screwdriver
had to replace the t-case motor in my 93 and 94 auto t-cases. dealer wanted $300 for the motor and $100/hr labor. I bought 1 t-case off eBay with the motor attatched and another one from the junkyard. they each cost me about $100. then did it all upside down in my garage.
