Heater Core Disconnected

The previous owner of my 83 Bronco bypassed the heater core for some reason. I am assuming it was leaking but I have no way of being sure. Can someone please tell me which hose from the firwall goes where? There is a left and right hose as I am standing at the front of the truck looking into the engine compartment. Also, is there an easier way to test the core other than hooking it up and watching the coolant fly?

I could be mistaken, but I really don't believe it matters on the hoses. One runs from the water pump to the core, and the other runs either from another outlet on the pump (if there is one) or from a fitting on the thermostat housing to the other core fitting.

Trust me, your core is shot if someone bypassed it. They're really not that bad to replace, though. You just have to remove the glovebox liner. Go ahead and pick one up. If you must know on your old one, remove it and slowly fill it with water from your kitchen sink. You'll see it leaking soon enough. Best of luck!

Plug one end and use a hand held vacuum pump/gauge (Mitey-Vac) for a leak down test on the other end. I concur with the previous poster, it is likely shot. Good news is, they are not that expensive for an aftermarket version. (~$45.00)
