I just discovered I have Champion RS12YC plugs in my 97 Ranger 3.0. Should I run right out n buy double platinums? Or can I get by on the Champs??? I have a rough idle and was planning to buy plug wires anyway, but the plugs look new.
Get Autolite/Motorcraft plugs, and genuine Motorcraft wires for the best performance. Even if they look new, other brands are often the wrong heat range, and are not designed for the high voltage Ford systems.
I too have been wondering about spark plug brands. After reading multiple posts and different threads, I'm going with Autolites.
I have another question about the plugs. How hard is it to change the rear intake plugs on a 2000 2.5 liter. It looks like the intake manifold has to come off.
I wanted autolites..... I called autozone n the guy said he had 9 of them in stock. So, I go down there and he only actually had 5! I guess somebody stole them and forgot to inform the computer. I ended up with motocrafts for $1 each more than the autolites. The motorcrafts are the "fine wire" or whatever..... I guess that's good....
My old wires measured on average 8k ohms. My new wires are 6k ohms avg. The truck runs A LOT better with the new plugs n wires. It made a bigger difference than the $120 I put into the DPFE and cam sensor!
It just confirms what I found out 15 yrs ago..... Champion plugs SUCK! I don't know why that is, they just do.
