Does anyone know how to (or direct me to a link) remove the instrument panel so that I can install my new aftermarket headunit? I got the Alpine iDA-X100 and the mounting bracket but I am not too sure on how to remove the instrument cluster so I can remove the OEM radio. Oh by the way, I have the in-dash 6 CD changer if that matters.
Park the truck in a flat area and put on the parking brake.
Shift the truck into first gear (turn the key forward one click and you can shift the gears without turning anything on).
Tilt the steering wheel all the way down.
Grab the dash panel above the gauges and pull toward you. The clips will let loose, but it does take a bit of force.
Once that is loose make your way toward the passenger side pulling rearward to get all the clips loose.
Once all the clips are loose reach behind and unhook all of the wiring harnesses. On the 05 I think there are almost 10 different wiring harnesses, so it takes a bit. The climate control unit comes out with the dash in the Lariat so don't forget the 2 harnesses for it.
Lift the dash panel up and over the steering wheel, tilting the top toward you.
It is a tight fit with the drivers grab handle so you might want to remove that also to make it easier (4 bolts behind the rubber plugs).
Then you'll see the 4 screws that hold the radio in place.
