I called to find out how much rust is on the truck, especially the bed.
I have a 78 F150 that runs well but is rusted out a bit.
Also I would like to go from the 351 currently in mine to a 390. But how hard would it be to part the rest out?
For the price it seems like a win/win situation.
Any thoughts?
So the guy says that it has the regular rust on the cab, fenders and the bed. He says it probably will not pass emissions because it needs a carb kit.
I asked if it was the original engine and he responded" I would say it is not the original engine. Ford never put a 4 bbl on a truck so my guess is the engine was replaced at some time."
This is not correct is it?
Also I think I remember seeing it on craigslist last month for $700 or maybe even $1000.
I am thinking about purchasing a 1975 F100 RangerXLT with a new 302 in it. she looks like she is in great shape body wise, the glossiest black paint job ever, all the chrome trimmings and a few small rust areas, but not bad and she has a short bed which is nice. there are some holes in the engine mounts and i don't know if that is totally common or how easily it can be fixed. New automatic transmission, true duals but no 4wd, which is also a concern for me. I am worried about this truck not moving in the winter snow w/o 4x4, but i guess i could weigh down the back. New american racing wheels and the stock ones in the bed. For sale at $3500. Reasonable?
Currently own a Black 1994 Ford F150 XL I6
99,000 original miles
4x4, automatic, longbed
flowmaster 50
purchased for $3000 (hence the desire to switch her out)
yeah the link ain't there no more, so I guess it would be kinda useless to talk about it but oh well.
I'm pretty sure that NumberDummy has said many times that a 390 never came in a 4x4. the only way to know if it is a 390 is measure the stroke. yes 4 BBL carbs did come on trucks. 360s and certain 390s no; the rest of the 390s yes.
I've been looking for a new vehicle for my friend and I have a stack of about 20 good F trucks $2k or under. I've noticed almost all listings recently are for trucks, and within the last two weeks the number of classic cars for sale on CL has jumped about 5x.
thanks, i just can't seem to bring myself to buy a truck without 4wd no matter how pretty she is. oh well. maybe another one will come up someday in rusty *** massachusetts.
