Trans replacement preparation Qs
Input shaft bearing is shot and is eating up the gears pretty well. Problem was accurately diagnosed by this forum some time ago and backed up by a Ford dealership last week. They advise replacing the tranny, so I'm looking for information so I can do it myself.
First, what trans do I have? VIN: 1FTCR10X2RUC38962
Second, in my search through the junkyards, what year range should I be looking for replacements from?
Thanks.
If yours is a 4x2 5sp like you said, then chances are you have a Mazda M50D-R1 trans. There "should be" a sticker on the driver's door jab that will give you the trans type. In your case it will probably say "M". The sticker on the trans may or may not say M5OD, mine said E87A FA.
I replaced mine years ago with a ~ $700 re-man unit. The hardest parts are getting the replacement unit back up in place by yourself, and bleeding the clutch system if you get air in there.
EDIT - As for the years to look for, I think 91' - 00' that had a 4.0L are direct replacements. Most yards should have a cross reference manual to double check.
Bear River - Not trying to be a "wise guy" (cheesy term used to satisfy FTE rules
) , but aren't those codes for the automatic units?
