I read somewhere that the 1980-82 TTB dana 44 front axle DOESN'T have the C-clip design holding in the shafts, is this true, wouldn't this make is a much more desireable TTB 44 to have?.
Some people think no type of TTB is desirable. I have never heard of c-clip problems with the TTB's. In fact, I didn't know they had c-clips? How would you get the axles out? There is no access cover on a TTB axle to get the c-clips out?
There is a C-clip on the passengers side axle... You have to drop the diff off of the beam to pull it out, sometimes this is required to change the inner u-joint on the passengers side....
On the 80-82 trucks, they run a bearing that's pressed on the shaft with a bolt on retainer, much like a 9" rear has. Much more desirable for servicing, and for a locker/etc.

I take it your one of those guys who thinks the TTB is Undesireable?. Its all in what you want it for, I already have a One ton straight axled rig that I use for rocks and knarly stuff so I dont need to do an SAS on the truck I'm asking about. I'm so sick of hearing "TTB is junk, SAS SAS etc etc, Yeah I know for most flex, durability, strength, dependability that a straight axle is the way to go, however that wasn't my question, I'm building a pre runner truck, I want a new project, something I havn't done before, I've built enough rock crawlers and mud boggers, I want to do a pre-runner now and if you noticed the TTB is the most popular pre-runner set up. Anyway, to the guy who answered my question, thank you.
