69' Ford
I just want to say first off what a nice place you have here! My name is Tyler and I am 14 years old. I am currently taking Drivers Education this week. Unfortunatly its the class room part
. Anyway I came here because I am a Ford Truck enthuisest and have found a 69' Ford truck that happens to be my uncles. He said he would sell it for $800.... But heres where my questions come in.-
1. The truck is in primer.. But body is in PERFECT shape!
2. Engine is a 240 inline 6... Can it be built for a little more HP?
3. Steering column was cut and the shifter was taken out and who ever installed a floor shifter.(Cheapo Peice) But they installed the shifter and left the bench seat!!!
..... 4. Needs a bumper.... Gone missing some how...
So whats it worth? You think $800 is a good deal or should I bargan with him and try to bring it down to what price?
Some more questions-
1. Paint? What would it cost me?
2. New steering column W/O the old in-dash shifter?
3. Bucket Seats? I know I need them for the floor shifter....
4. Bumper?
Well thats about it for now... I hope I dont bother you guys with all the questions!
Thanks,
Tyler
2. DO NOT worry about more horsepower! My son is 14 and going through drivers ed also. It sounds like that inline 6 is great for you to start with.
3. Paint, you get what you pay for, save your dollars.
Have fun with it.
what a great truck to start with i myself own a 69 f100 360v8 but i started with a 1968 f100 with 240 6cyl 3/4 ton which was added that 240 is it gear driven/chain driven distributor?? i had gear driven with a four speed granny gear ask your uncle and see if he remembers that that truck was tough with the 240 that motor had so much power that it hauled 2 500 gallon tanks fillled with water to fill a swimming pool.. gas wise it used a lot because the rear was geared low so the highway milege sucks. as to the value it is probaly worth the money hopefully you get a family discount??
good luck with it ...

The 240 can easily be hopped up with a four barrel intake and a holley 390, or even a set of triple duces, A decent bump stick and a set of EFI 3 into one cast hedders. And will have way better torque due to the inline configuration.
Anthing that fits the 300 built untill 1996 will fit the 240. plus the 240s head is a higher compression head.
Dare to be different. dropping a 302 in is not a step ahead.
The 240/300 had a gear driven camshaft. The dizzy runs off a heilcal gear machined into the cam mid way.

The distributor on the truck is a belt drive... According to my uncle he will let it go cheap since I am looking into buying it!
He also said the 240 has good power but like you said has bad gas mileage for the highway which I plan to fix....Thanks,
Tyler
