painting heater box?
Among other things, I removed the heater box and core.
(standard hi/lo heater, no a/c)
My question is regarding the metal side of the heater box.
The side of the metal that faces inward was quite rusty.
I have sanded away all of it so it's back to bare metal.
Before I put it all back together, I was thinking about painting
it to avoid further corrosion. Then I got to thinking....did Ford
leave it unpainted for a specific reason? My concern is that when
I use the heater, I will be smelling the paint. I'm worried that
the heat will scorch it, I guess, making a nasty odor. I could use
high heat (engine) paint, but that's rated at 500 degrees and needs
to get that hot (or close) in order to cure it. My experience has
been that without curing, it stays very soft. And I don't think
the heater would supply enough heat to cure it properly.
I know, I know....no one will ever see it, I just am looking to
avoid more rust in the future. When i finally put everything back
together, I want it to last another 20 years or more.
So....paint or no paint? If yes to painting...high heat or regular?
Thanks for reading, I appreciate any feedback.

It's yellow, but nobody will see it and it will prevent further rusting and cures well.

I didn't even think about that.
I'm not familiar with what "chromate" is, but I'm guessing
it's similar to (or the same as) zinc primer?
I'll ask for it at the autobody supply store.
Thanks again.
