Just picked this up yesterday, 1996 Ford F150 XLT. I got her for $1200, blue book is $4600. I'm not really a Ford guy but this was a great deal and it was my dad's friend's truck. I'm taking off the running boards and the cap soon. I need to get a new headunit and amp, the stock speakers are good right now but I'll upgrade later and I already have a sub. My dad and I are going to bondo and paint all the rust spots eventually. Its a pretty clean truck, the previous owner washed and waxed it every week. I really want to get a Line-X / Rhino liner as soon as I take the cap off.
Looks pretty sharp, I'd say you stole it at that price too. I paid three times that for my 93 and it's only 2WD.
Ditch the cap, fix the rust you can. Check the rear spring shackles for rust and replace them if you need to.
Pull ECC codes using the process from fordfuelinjection.com. If there are any codes stored in the computer, you'll know and it can help you make sure this beast stays on the road a good, long time.
I'd lose the cap too, caps make trucks look like old fart rides! lol
While you may not really like the running boards they do offer some protection from road crap hitting the cab and rocker panel area off the front wheels. Just be sure to flush the area well if you leave them on.
Does anybody know if my truck could have a 351C instead of the 351W? The guy I bought it from says it came from the factory with a Cleveland but I thought they stopped making them in the 70's or something.
Thats a nice looking red truck! Especailly for the price! If it is a 5.8 then it is a 351 windsor. Since you removed the cap it definitely looks better. Now you need to lay that spare down or put it back under the back of the truck so you cant see it sticking up out of the bed.

Thanks. yeah I'll do something with the spare soon.
