I am looking for a little guidance on a 00 7.3 4x4 CC truck. I am going to change the fuel filter in it in the a.m. Havent seen the truck yet so I am not sure if there are 2 like the 6.0 Are there any tricks to doing these like the 6.0 or pretty straight foreward. I was looking for a Tech folder but couldnt seem to find it. Thanks for the help guys.
Remove the plastic black cover that says "powerstroke 7.3" (err, I think that's what mine says) and you'll see it. It's on the very top of the motor, pretty hard to miss.
Very easy to change out. I'll see if I can find the link to the procedure someone has already typed up.
Just kidding. The 7.3 swap is much easier than the 6.0, and we only have one of them. Pay attention to which way the bevel gasket faces. That's about the hardest part. You do need to be aware that some aftermarket filters have the lid permanently attached to the filter so the lid becomes disposable. If that's the case you'll either need to go back with the same type or get a new lid.
The only filter I have changed on mine is on top of the motor in a black housing, kinda like yours. I used a pair of channelocks with the handles spread apart and removed the lid that way. There is a yellow valve on the passenger side, back, bottom of the filter housing that you will need to open to let the fuel drain prior to removing the lid. You should also have a new gasket with the filter. Pay attention to the one you remove because they are bevelled and need to be installed the same way. Hope this helps a little.
One other note: Someone posted before about using a "little" oil on the filter gasket, instead of diesel fuel, to allow it to seat properly. It may apply only to certain brands of filters, but wouldn't hurt to do anyway.
6.0 guys can't even catch a break! Everyone has you pretty well lined out it sounds like. When draining the fuel, add a piece of rubber hose to the stock drain line to drain it into a can or something to keep it from going all over the truck- the drain line is hard to see until you know it's there, it's on the passenger side of the block. I found mine by cracking the drain valve briefly then crawling under and watching for where the drip was coming from. Without draining the fuel you'll have a helluva time getting the cap off.

You'll want a 13mm deep socket to get those "bolts" off. They're recessed pretty good, and just deep enough so that a standard depth socket will just barely catch the flats.
Thanks for all the help. I have an account with a Motor Craft dealer so only ford parts for this guy Anyway I guess the only question is to oil or not to il the filter oring.

Again I thank you

If it's the beveled gasket just use diesel fuel. If it's a flat gasket like the new (I believe wix) design, you need to use motor oil.
