I was reading somewhere else online about this being a popular swap for the 87-96 Ford truck. Has anybody on here done one? For the front springs the post I read said something about the spring hanger (I assume the front) had to be moved forward 3 and 3/8 inches along with a shackle reversal kit. The rear springs would work, but the holes on the spring brackets had to be drilled out to 5/8 inch. Any additional info on this would be appreciatted.
I reckon this might be a stupid question, but with the plethora of aftermarket springs out there that bolt right onto the older Fords, why would you want to have to modify your truck to fit Super Duty springs?
For example...I got a pair of 2800# ¾-ton springs for the rear of my '89 F-150 4WD from a local spring shop. Seems to me I paid $225 or so for the pair, and there were absolutely zero issues with fitment...if you don't count getting the old springs off!
I just heard about the swap on another board. There are alot more leaf spring options available for a Superduty however. I have 6 inch springs on the front of mine, a swapped in dana 60, and a 3 inch body lift. I feel my truck sits ontop of the tires. I want more clearence between the body, bumber and tires. And since I had just heard about the Superduty spring swap, I was just curious if there were any other benefits besides spring availability. I know a longer leaf spring rides alot better also. Thanks.www.cardomain.com/ride/2429607 Here is my cardomain page with pics of my truck. I know, I need sto start a gallery on here. I'll get to it soon. Rich
