im looking to put headers on my 97 f150 with the 4.6 V8 and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to who i should buy from and if there is anything i should look out for. cheaper is better, so i have looked at two pacesetter models. the shorty headers, which say they are california friendly, so im assuming that means o2 sensor compatible, and the long tube headers. any and all suggestions and ideas are greatly appreciated.
You won't see any gains from shorties except a nicer exhaust tone. LT's are the way to go but not if you are on a tight budget. The pacesetters are a good choice for quality.
I would buy a set of magnaflow cats (about $60 a piece) and get those installed after the LT's plus you will have to get the bungs welded in for the front o2's. Basically you will have to get the entire Y-pipe fabricated.
the LT's im looking at have the o2 sensor locations already there, so all i would need to do would be figure out how to hook them to the factory pipes, right?
how are you gonna hook up longtubes to a factory y-pipe? You will need a complete custom midpipe. If i were gonna go that far, you might as well put an x or h pipe in and run true duals. This will give you max performance.
I noticed a little difference in power from the shorties nothing major longtubes i hear benefit you more but shortes still help the exhaust breathe better and hook up to your factory y pipe

that is really what im looking for, a repacement manifold that will give me a little more power and cost less then the factory cast manifolds. thanks for all your help
contact an exhaust guy... heddman makes a shortie that bolts right to the factory Y pipe, it also has the bungs there for your O2 sensor, and they're about 800 bucks off the heddman website...
