73 crewcab needs more cooling

I was wondering if anyone has ever installed an extra evap. a/c unit possably behind the back seat or under it on a crewcab? The factory unit does not cool the passengers in the back seat at all. If anyone has done this or somthing like this what kind of unit did you use and how well does it work? Also how did you hook it up and did you have to use a bigger condenser?
One more question has anyone ever replaced the foam on the blend doors on an older truck? What kind of foam and where did you get it?
thanks Leadmic

I saw one that would probably work that was in the rear of a van at the junk yard. It was about 4" high and 20" long and had two small squirl box type fans and the exchanger behind it. I think you could mount that in the rear without too much trouble.

I don't know how you would work it because once the freon has been expanded into the primary unit, it heats up and has to be recompressed to have the same effect as it did before. If you were to tap the line just before the stock box and run it to the rear it might work, then just run it back into the return line.

I wonder if it would be better to run some duct work to the rear and see if that helps.

Another suggestion:
The stock a/c box sits inside the hot engine compartment just above the exhaust on a V8. I bought some alum backed insulation tape from home depot in the plumbing section and insulated both the inside and outside of the box. I doubled the insulation on the outside and it covers the entire outside of the box on all the lower sections. The tape comes in a 2" wide roll and holds very well.

If you ever notice some of the cover plates are warped from heat, you'll understand why I did this. I had to use longer screws on the cover plate but other than that it wasn't too hard.

If you don't want to go that far, you can just insulate the cover and the inside of the fan area. The underside is more important as it gets constant heat and has only that thin plastic to insulate from the hot air. A metal plate would help too.

Home Depot, it was about 1/8" thick self sticking about 2" wide and I scraped off the old stuff and rust treated it then painted it then applied new foam.

Also, if you run a little sealer around the edge of the fan, it'll pull harder. I noticed a small 1/4" gap there and this caused it to pull less air.
