I just got back from a camping trip and did 7 hours towing without it, now that is sometimes a good thing but on flat ground like most of the driving it would have been nice. why would my truck not engage o/d the whole time? it does have a 60tow setting but even on stock mode and even changing the truspeed nothing worked. the trans ran around 180 to 200 most of the time. on the way up it ran great until i hit redding where the hills started but i just figured it was best to not use o/d anyways. also on my way back right before the dinner stop the o/d off light was blinking and then it did that about 10 mins from home aswell. what kind of problems am i looking at? the truck will be going in to the shop because i would like to get this fixed before the next trip.
i think my next purchase is a wicked wheel because that high pitched noise from the turbo surge is killer without OD.
sorry for the long post and sorry to the fellow ford owner i got close to at 680, my trailer hit the bump on the turn and sent me all over the place, but thats not an excuse it was my fault.
The blinking OD light means it has stored a transmission code, get it checked out and you may have an answer to your transmission not shifting into OD.

O/D light flashing means something is going wrong with your tranny and a code will be stored. Any good tranny shop will have a reader and tell you what it was. Don/t forget, nothing on a vehicle ever fixes itself. Whatever the problem is/was will raise its ugly head again.
It could be something as simple as the ABS module on the rear axle, or it could be something more terminal. As was stated, get the codes read and lets go from there.

I didn't bring that up because he was saying how hard he had been working the POS transmission. Sorry.
It's getting checked out today but i forgot to mention that when i was towing through the hills the abs light did go on.
I'm trying to decide whether that makes me feel any better or not. I have my ABS light come on every 6 months or so for a few minutes and just ignore it and it goes away the next time I start the truck. But both times in all these miles the O/D light has started flashing it has resulted in major transmission failure.
I had the same problem with my truck... It started with the overdrive light flashing then next my truck started shifting really hard and the speedometer would jump +/- 5mph while driving. I could not figure it out so I took it to the dealer and they found it was the truspeed I had installed on my truck. They took it off and recalibrated my speedometer with their computer and I haven't had a problem since.
We checked the truspeed on the road, just put it into setting 2 which is how it was before we installed the tru speed. i'll find out soon enough i just need to get some time because this unpacking and physical therapy has really taken a lot of time.
