need some more info then just out. does 4 low work? 4 hi? 2hi?
Crawl under there and check the case for a round metal tag. it should say on there. If the tag is gone check the door jam and get the codes, then hit google. Id say the 208 mainly because its chain and I have destroyed 2 of these cases.
If you pull the lever straight back for the 4 hi and the N and then 4low, it's probably the 208. If you have to pull the lever to your leg and then back to get into 4 low, then it's probably the Borg-Warner. You can go to someplace like drivetrain.com, and I think they have pictures and info that may help identify it.
All 80-86 transfer cases shift the same way, all straight line, no lockout of any sort on the shifter.
Being an F150, it's probably a 208, but, a 1345 or 1356 will bolt in in it's place, just need to match the rear output to the same as you currently have, or snag a rear driveshaft to suit.
