Well, I just bought my first deisel truck a week ago.... and today found a 27ft fifth wheel on craigslist and ended up buying it! Now, I got some more questions!
2) Any opinions on a 5th wheel hitch VS. a Gooseneck adaptor? My truck already has a ball in the bed so a GA would be the cheaper way but I heard it can put more stress on the 5th wheel frame. Anybody know or use a GA?
Well, that is all I can think of right now. THANKS in advance!
I used a Colibert Fifth wheel adapter for a year before I got another truck with the fifthwheel hitch and loved it. Sometimes it seemed easier to hook up too. If you are still interested in an adapter cheap, PM me. I have it listed on Craigs list if you decide that is what you want.....Gauges are definitely a must. Tranny and EGT at a minimum. Add a 6.0 cooler too. I have one and it never runs over 160 even on the hottest of days, and my fiver weighs about 9500#....Dave
00Dave: I know about the I40 going west of OKC is real crappy, I go out to Weatherford a lot from south of Houston. You will notice alot of guys, and gals here prefer the Bilsteins shocks for the ride.
BioHazrdMan: Man your going to blow that $400 real quick plus some and its going to be fun, and yep alternative shipping address is great.
So I'm searching for Bilsteins now. Are there more than one model for our trucks? I'm only finding one model for the front and one for the rear. Maybe I'm not lookin' in the right place. I thought there were adjustable ones for the rear?
Thanks Ron! Now I'm curious if I can use the same shock listed for the rear of the F350 on my F250? The fronts are the same, but the rear has a different part #. Wonder what difference if any it would make?
I am east of OKC, about 13 miles or so. We are located in Newalla. We purchased the 5th wheel from some folks over in Yukon, the west side of OKC. Took the crosstown over, man what a ride. We very seldom go to OKC. I usually only travel over when we haul calves to the stockyards. They are in the process of building a new crosstown just south of the existing one.

F250 has smaller blocks in the rear then the F350...so it sits a little lower in the rear....

BioHazard - I see you have a shortbed. I have a SB as well and my last FW came with a GA. I wasn't keen on the possibility of hitting the cab with the trailer so I removed the GA (fun) and put in a slider FW hitch in the bed.
Now they make slider gooseneck hitches, I can't remember the company but I might have gone that route back then.
If you've already gotten the GA, just keep in mind what your turn radius can be. I went to an empty parking lot and went in circles for awhile to get used to it (one eye on the road, another in the mirror looking at the cab, etc). Got some funny looks

Thanks! I did already get a GA... I am a very cautious person when it comes to pulling a trailer so I think I'll be OK. Thanks for the heads up, I'll check out my turn radius for sure!
