I am replacing the exhaust from behind the O2 sensor in a '95 f150. I will be going from the 2 to 1, to a 2 to 2. There will not be converters when I am done. I note that there is a tube that runs up from the existing pipe between the converters. I assume this relates to emissions. My questions are:
1. Is it possible to simply cap off this tube, or is that an option?
2. If not, will it serve its purpose if I tie it into just one of the new pipes,
or do I need to cross the pipes (beyond what is already done for the O2
sensor) for it to be effective?
That tube is part of your thermactor system and supplies air from your air pump to the catalytic converter. Either strip the entire thermactor system out (kinda involved) or just leave it open. Tying it into the pipe without a cat will serve no purpose and may corrupt the O2 sensor readings. Capping it may cause some sort of backpressure issue with your air pump. Another option would be to install a shorter serpentine belt that bypasses the air pump.
