I use conventional ethylene glycol and I usually pick it up at Walmart or NAPA.
I use the house brands and mix it 50/50 with distilled water. I mix DCA4 with it that pour it in.
were do i get dca4 or whatever and how do i no how much to add{ this is my first diesel and i just found out about putting additives in it so i need to no everything}
You can pick coolant additive just about anywhere now. Most parts stores have it. There are several different brands that will do fine.
You don't want to use tap water or city water. You don't want hard water deposits in your coolant system. That is what gets most radiators. 90% of coolant problems stem from the water. You can pick up distilled water from most stores like Walmart ect. I think it was like 50¢ a gallon. You don't have to do that though. Collect rain water.
You can pick up coolants that are premixed like Fleetgaurd that will work also. It is a purple cooler but is the same as the green. Those two can be mixed.
I see no need for the extended life coolants because regular coolant will last allot longer then two years if maintained. The same coolant ran in one of my trucks for 8 years. I just kept up with additive and let it ride. Still using the original radiator,83 model, and the block looked perfect inside. You could see the coating from the additive on the cylinders and the other parts of the block and heads.
