Anyone have/installed LMC's shorty headers? My manifolds have been looking bad for some time now and i think towin' the travel tralier yesterday blew through a hole or two.
Ive done some thread searches on headers but dont see anything on them. LMC Truck Parts - Page 138
They are 16 guage. Machined flanges. Says thick but not how thick. I dont know what standards i should be looking for.
I dont know about that, rsylvstr. Ive been chewing on this one for about a year now cause I could see the mani's were on the way out. Only now on it again cause of the new sputter.
LxMan1, I was diggin the low price on the painted ones, but you say go coated? If I end up spending that much, $500, is there anyother recomendation for that amount of money? Someone on the SuperDuty forum said to just go grab a cheap set off of eBay. Now I dont care what they look like under the hood but that doesnt sound like a good idea to me. I could be wrong though, my wife tells me that all the time...
I've looked into headers for a few years now. Everything I have come across says go with long tubes, problem is they are just about non existent for 4wd trucks with a 5.4L. The few I ever found were just too much for me at the time, seems like $800+. IIRC MM&FF just did a N/A performance test and also concluded long tubes are the only way to go. Just something else to think about and look in to.
The issue is rust thru down the road. The coated ones will last a very long time, the painted ones will not stay painted due to the heat and will rust thru faster.
For the hassle of installing them, I would rather pay more now and not have to do it again later.
I have a set of old MAC headers on my Mustang that have been on there for over 15 years and have never even blown a gasket yet. They are nickel plated. They turned a bit blue in spots but have no rust.
LxMan1, Now those Dynatechs are showing for an F150. I know i have the same 5.4 but I didnt think there was anyway of fitting longtubes on through the 350 compartment and carriage? I sure where theres a will theres a way but i dont have 3 days of downtime to be moving stuff around.
Isnt there some kind of issue with too little back pressure with the longtubes? I am very in the dark with understanding that sort of thing.
Those tubes look pretty badass.
I didn't pay any attention to it being a F350.
Long tubes will have a better scavaging effect to keep the torque up with better flow to increase horsepower. You might contact them about a set-up for the SuperDuty chassis.
