just bought an 06 f-150 ex-cab.i need to hook up a cb and a company radio. i would like them to go off with the key. i cant seem to find a fuse that doesnt have power all the time. i dont want to hook up to something that will screw up my electronics or computer. anyone know what to hook up to. the cb is just stock with no booster and the company radio has no booster . both will be on at the same time.
This is what it looks like, I got mine from Checker.
It seems to be a very popular method. My google search for this photo shows many other forum users using this product.
Have fun with your project and keep us posted.
Keep in mind this one pictured is for MINI fuses, If your truck has regular size fuses (I doubt it though) you will need the proper kit.
This mini kit is PN FHM200BP / OFHMO200ZP - can be found at the Partsamerica website. 9.99 or so.
It wasn't the easiest one to access, but I ended up using F01, a 10 amp "keyed hot" connection for Run/Accessory - Wipers, Instrument cluster, and Audio for XL/STX. It seems like almost every other fuse, including the radio, is hot all the time. The device I was installing had a status light so it had to be wired to a fuse that was hot only when the ignition was on. ('08 STX)
I do not know what circuits are in the newer F150s, but I used the instrument illumination location on my 02 F150.
The entire oil pressure gauge (and light) is off when the truck is shut down.
rusty bumper that didnt work on mine, f 01 is hot all the time too. any other suggestions. maybe just pin a note on the dash to turn them off. ha.ha.
The fuse assignments must have changed between years. F01, for instrument cluster, etc., was the only one I could find that was "keyed hot". It seems like whichever fuse connection that feeds instrument illumination (like F01 does on mine) would work for you.
