hello Im new to this forum I was wondering if anyone has info on ford pickup wire harnesses cab to engine for 1977 ford f100. My question is would like to know if the wire colors are the same from a 1978 ford and will they work for a 1977 ford pickup restoring a 1977 and want to add factory ac. I got a deal on a 1978 wire harness but would like to know if the wiring is the same color code have wire diagrams for a 1977 pickup was wondering if these would be the same. any help would be appreciated. thanks joe have 302 v8 shortbed ford f100.
Most Color Codes for the wires are the same throughout the years. Makes it easier for the mechanics to work on these vehicles.
There can be slight differences between years. Mostly connector differences.
A 78 harness for a 77 should work satisfactory, keeping possible connector differences in mind.
The only major thing you have to worry about. Gauge cluster trucks have vastly different Main and Engine wiring harnesses than warning light harnesses. Make sure of this before you start or you can have all sorts of issues.
you need to be aware that the big difference is in the dash gages, the idiot light system and the gauge type that is to say that some units are just a light for ALT and oil then the other type is the gauge that has swing arm and high-low for oil and discharge or charge, the later has a much larger wire plug in, harness than the first ., hope this helps you to see the trouble before it happens.
