I have a tricky problem where the front drivers side injector return line cap appears to have either melted or wore through at the point where the diesel is released from the injector causing diesel to leak all over the engine. I do not have an after market engine temp gauge, but the stock one which seems to work OK, did not indicate the temp. was too hot. Is it possible that the injector is at fault and pressurized fuel is being shot into the return line?
The injectors and return lines were replaced less than 2000 miles ago. Anybody seen this before or have any ideas?
If the caps were replaced when you changed injectors, it is possible the return tee was not cast correctly and had a weak spot which failed.
Also possible the injector is not sealing, which can let compression into the injector.
I guess that could heat the return fuel enough to melt the plastic return tee.
I don't think I have ever seen one melt to the point it failed before.
The caps are HDPE and have a melting point of 359 degrees. The plastic should not have melted. If the caps that were used are not oem they could be a lower quality plastic other than HDPE.
