Is there any way i can change my exsisting climate controls on a 92 f150 to the automatic climate contrls found in the crown victorias and grand Marquis?
I've been thinking about doing that on my 2001 F150, and looking at the shop manuals, it appears feasible. I'm spoiled from our other vehicles, and it really does seem primative for the heater to blow cold air at start-up. I've got to at least figure out how to eliminate that. All my cars and SUV's have at least had that for many years. Keep in mind that the ATC is factory supplied on many new Lariats, Expos, Navigators, etc.
I doubt if it was available on the older trucks, so all your vacuum actuators and controls could well be different. Still, if you can get the ATC controls and sensors cheap off a junker, you might find they could be made to work. You'd think they would use common parts where possible. I wouldn't recommend it though, unless you're damn good or have a friend who is!
Before I bought my new truck, I looked at a used one that was perfect except it didn't have 4 wheel ABS. It did have rear wheel ABS, so I thought it should be easy to add on. I figured that at the factory they probably just added a few parts. WRONG! A whole different system!
You'll need a lot more than the EATC. You'll need a blend door motor, fan controller (I forget what it's called at this moment), a temperature sensor. I can email you the electrical diagrams for the whole system in a 94 Mark VIII.
I was thinking of grabbing the setup out of a towncar. Do you think it is the same setup as the Mark VIII? If so I will gladly take the diagram. I decided to try the towncar setup, because it looks to be the same size as the setup in my 94 F150. Thanks in advance.
I don't know if the Mark VIII has the same setup as the Towncar. I would think that the operation would be the same. Looking at the electrical diagram for the Mark VIII I see that there is a COLD ENGINE LOCKOUT SWITCH, EATC MODULE, BLEND DOOR ACTUATOR, BLOWER MOTOR SPEED CONTROLLER, EATC SUNLOAD SENSOR, AMBIENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR, and IN-CAR TEMPERATURE SENSOR. All of these things would be needed from the donar car. There is also an input from the MESSAGE CENTER on the Mark VIII that is for English or Metric display of temperature. The output from the EATC to the AC clutch goes through a VARIABLE CONTROL RELAY MODULE (VCRM). I don't know if the EATC's output for the AC has a high enough output rating to directly drive the AC clutch. The VCRM has an input for an A/C REFRIGERANT PRESSURE SENSOR.
You're going to have a lot of work to do to make this work. I'll scan the electrical diagrams and email them to you.
Thanks. Who ever said anything easy was fun?!! LOL. I guess I will see if I can get all of the required parts first. I will let you know how I make out.
I'm finally going to attempt changing from manual A/C to ATC on my 2001 F150. I have the control panel (from an Expy), and all the shop manual diagrams and info. It would seem that I can substitute the required controllers and sensors. I'm assuming that the basic refrigeration system is the same.
I was wondering if anyone has done this and might be able to provide any guidance.
