I am still pretty new to diesels but have done the 06 differential cover mod royal purple, changed filter and flushed trans using the flush procedure I found on this forum....It was a great help thanks to all. I now need a water pump as there is play in the shaft. What is a good brand, anyone heard of Airtex?
Thanks I think I found one by Airtex. Is there anything that should be replaced at the same time as water pump, 203 thermostat and some kind of flange?

How many miles, depending on that, maybe the fan clutch while you're in there, Mine went at about 180k, and I anything but hammer my truck.
It'd be a good idea to add a coolant filter while you're in there changing the pump - lack of coolant filtration and/or poor SCA maintance is likely the culprit for the WP failure.

A coolant filter would be a good idea. If you run too much SCA, it will flake off and this can wear out your w/p seal. That is why I added mine. It traps the the debris, floating around, in the cooling system.
I think an even better option than the coolant filter, since you've got to drain it anyway, would be to switch over to Rotella ELC coolant. No SCA's to add - just check it twice a year to be sure all is good. It is designed t last 300,000 miles, then just "refresh" it and you're good for another 300,000 miles. I put on the coolant filter a year ago, and now I switched over to the Rotella ELC coolant. Do I still need the coolant filter? Probably not. But it's not hurting anything either, so it'll stay put.

Been thinking of doing that also at next coolant change. But, will keep the filter for added measure. I have plenty of spare filters.
If those filters are pre-charged with and SCA compound, then you cannot use them with Rotella ELC. Some filters are pre-charged, and others are not.
My filters are not precharged. I work on OTR trucks and heavy equipment. We use the precharged ones on them and change them out to maintain the proper levels.
We're running coolant filters even on the trucks we've switched to the Long Life no SCA style coolants. We're currently running FleetGuard Final Charge.
We just don't change them as often - about 22-24 months/filter. We do check the coolant freeze pt & Ph annually @ the same time we are due for a state inspection.
A bigger issue for us is keeping our operators from dumping the wrong coolants in. (We recently started putting stickers on the expansion tanks showing what coolant to use)
They just grab whatever is available & pour it in. I've got one truck running what looks like dark grey coolant - mixed the Final Charge w/ ?????????? = Grey/Blackish coolant. Scared the crap outta me. I thought we had motoroil in the coolant till I studied it more closely. You really have to be careful about what gets mixed in - some coolants don't play nice w/ each other = goo in the radiator.
