5W20 ?
Just bought a 2001 F150 XLT 5.4L and Ford recommends 5W 20 motor oil. Where is a good spot to get this off weight? Other than the Ford Dealer's parts department? What are the advantages of this weight? I live in Minnesota and we can reach 100 in the summer and 50 below in the winter. Can this weight be run year round?

WalMart has 5w20 Motorcraft @ $1.38 here in OK and Pep boys has Pennzoil for $1.68.

If your cooling system is functioning properly, the oil temperature should remain constant. The owners manual for my Taurus called for 5w30 for below 100 and 10w30 for above. What I gather from that is that the 5w30 is too thin for start up at +100 deg. The high "operating temp" viscosity, 30,is the same. A 5w30 oil has the viscocity of a 5 weight when cold and a 30 weight when hot.

5W20 ?
I looked all over for the 5w20. The only place I found it was at PepBoys and it was Penzoil. I think it cost $1.79 per quart. I have always used Valvoline, but I couldn't find it in this weight. I went to the Ford dealer and they told me they wanted almost $4.00 a quart. I got coupons for oil changes from where I bought my truck for free oil with an oil change, so I took them up on it. The oil change cost me $17.48 and it would have almost cost me that for oil and filter.
