Damn, I guess I better not change my oil either then. I don't want my motor to go on me.

Better leave that old, dark and nasty oil in there then, huh?

You may laugh, but, changing the oil in the engine can cause a very simular problem if it's never been changed. The new oil can dislodge gunk and plug up the oil pump screen. Better to take the risk in this case and change the oil anyway. Cause it's relatively easier to remove the pan, and clean the oil pump screen, if it plugs up.

However I wouldn't put one of those oil flush chemicals in an older engine, unless I was prepared to remove the oil pan and clean the oil pump screen, after all the gunk got dislodged and plugged it up.

Same thing can happen to the tranny. The newer tranny fluid has higher detergents in it. So on a tranny that's never been serviced, it can dislodge stuff that can plug it up. Go ahead and change the fluid if you want, but be prepared that you may have to take it apart and have it cleaned afterwards., after it plugs something up. And it's no where near as simple to clean a tranny as it is to clean an engine oil pump screen. Might as well rebuild a tranny if you have to take it apart to clean the gunk out of it.

All I'm saying...

Oh, and before you judge too quickly, next time you are in a auto parts store, read the warnings on the back of a bottle of motor flush. It will tell you the same thing I posted earlier.
