my favorite is WD40 and a lighter, every time one flys by torch it's wings off.
use caution around flamable items.

go to your local pest control center. there are other products that are stronger than the ones the hardware store sells. lowe's has weaker products to sell because there's always the 1 idiot that uses it wrong or doesnt follow directions of common sence. most killers you'll need to saok the whole nest. a big 40something Oz. can will work for i decent sized nest. the spray will shoot pretty far.if they are those orange-ish red ones that flex their muscles when u get 10' from them...moove reallllll slow to get close to nest.
sice they're in your car you might want to check outa fogger. then do a good interior cleaning. incase you get side effects from fumes/ active ingredient.
best of luck

Or a can of Aqua net to attack the indiviuals. You dont even need to have a lighter.

Check your soffits, eaves, and such. What can happen is carpenter bees eat into the wood, then wasps move in and kill them. You end up with a never ending supply of wasps looking for a new home.

If you have fruit trees, try to pick up the fruit when it drops.

ok Bob, this gonna sound like i am rambling, but there is a point to the story.

back as a kid, we used to spray all the buildings, trucks, and tractors with something to keep the wasps, hornets, and bees from building nests.
i cant remember what it was called, but it was used in new construction for just that purpose till the mid 70's when big brother banned it cause it might have caused cancer if you drank a glass of it every day for 200 years.
it was replaced with something else that i also don't remember the name of,but it is still available.
the replacement is only about 50% as good as the original.
i sprayed my boat with the replacement stuff in 88, and it is still working. i used the last of it up when i bought the house.

when it dries, it leaves a smell that the bugs cant stand, so they will not nest anywhere near it.

the smell to a nesting insect is kinda like what a 5 day old burrito fart is to a human. it sends them packing fast!!!

anyway, an old-timer exterminator who is any good should be able to tell you what i am talking about.

i don't know of anything that will prevent them from nesting. i get them in my shed, when i do get them a shot of carb cleaner leaves a nice pile of dead wasps.

Can't beat throwing gas on them. Drops them like a rock. Soapy water is also supposed to do it but I prefer gas.
