Ford is selling new F150 4wd's for $14,488. It is a basic swb with a v6, 5speed AC and stereo. I do alot of commuting right now and need decent fuel mileage. Sure I would like to have a Triton, but I also need a cheap payment. Word is that Chevrolet (argh)is outselling Ford in the Cincinnati region (I live in WV)and they are trying to get sales up I assume to maintain top selling truck honors. Do these things do good on gas? I have heard a few people complaining about 4.6 fuel mileage. They are considerably higher on payment. I drove one yesterday. The power range seems to be high, but sufficient. My 300 six has more torque but zero horsepower. Also sucks fuel badly (10-11 mpg). Need advice quick. Thanks.

Right now I am only getting 15 mpg at best, most of it on the highway in overdrive. This is a 2000 F150 supercab XLT, 4.2L V6, 5 speed. If anyone has an idea as to how to boost this, please let me know. Already installed a K&N air filter, will go to a Flowmaster muffler only if I have to. Any way to adjust the computer? Ford should be able to do better with 2001 technology, fuel injection, and O2 sensors!! Any help out there, thanks!!!

Well, I bought a 2001 Sport 4X4 4.2 5 speed. My first tank was 14.5 mpg. Not too good compared to my Buddy's Chevy. His truck is also a base model with the 4.8 V8 (270 hp) and 5 speed 4X4. His last tank was 17 mpg. He has a Flowmaster exhaust and K&N filter. Runs strong. Those with the V6, dont be too doubtful of the power they are making. I raced him from a 40 mph roll. He was behind me and pulled out to pass on my left. I stomped it when he pulled out. It took him forever to get around me and even then, I had started backing out of it. We work together and he said he couldnt believe how strong the Ford V6 was. He thought it would be an easy kill. No dice. Blue Ovals forever.
