08 tailgate for 02

Hello all, I did a search and didn't come up with an answer. The question is, has anyone installed an 08 with step tailgate on a 99 thru 2003 superduty. I heard that it will work with some sort of part you need from dealer but I remain wary of things that are not interchangeable. Some idiots at the local hay supplier dropped several bails on my gate from the top of the pallet and bowed (bent) it a good 2 inches while I was around the corner looking at other mixes. Of course they accept no responsibility and I kick myself for walking away from my other half...not my better half honey (in case she reads this). Anyway I'd like to upgrade to the step and hand hold gate. Thanks for all your help and sorry for the rant.

Maybe it's the fire walls or whatever here at work (nuclear power plant) but these links won't work...error messages. Please advise where to go, whose gallery to go to. Thanks for your help on this.

It will fit, but you have to change one of the hinges. I'm not sure which one. You might do a search in the superduty forum to find more info on it.

No, I think it was the idiot that posted the links screwed them up. Let's try again.

If I can I'll just buy one but I can fab one up quick enough if move a ton of stuff around to get back at my welding stuff. You guys are great and pulled through once again...do you all ever get sore patting yourselves on your well deserved backs seriously you guys are great thanks.

I love my 08 tailgate. With that torsion spring in there the thing is light. Mine was an entire box swap though.

I'm jealous. Ever since the 08's came out, I've wanted one of those tailgates...with the SUPERDUTY letters pressed into the metal. Pretty cool. My tailgate is all beat up (previous owner) would be neat to get a new one.

But, for now, mine works fine. I got an aftermarket torsion spring on my current tailgate as a gift a few years ago. can lift it with a single finger.

Yeah, I found one thats silver...my trucks charcoal so I need to paint it but for $350 and new I feel it's worth it. I'll love the step with my little 4" lift and 35" tires it should be perfect.

If I read the other thread right all you would need is the left hinge and the tailgate to make it work.

That's the hinge with the spring assist in it, so it has to be changed. Other than that, you may have to adjust the ***** on the bed to play with alignment. Pretty simple swap.

Looks like Carroll County and the surrounding area is a good place to be, we might just have to head up that way Kris .
