Question Cargo Bed Lights?

Has anyone had any experience with the Putco cargo bed light kit?

Universal LED Cargo Light Kits by Putco

I was thinking of building a system myself, but this may be simpler. Any experiences to share?

Thanks in advance for any information,

I used two sets of dual 12" white cathode light kits for computers.

These lights use standard 12VDC source. Easy to install and very bright.

Plus, it's only $6 for a set of two.

Here is the place to get them: White Cold Cathode Light Kit

This looks like an ingenious approach. I have two concerns with it, though. First is that the lights don't look like they are designed for an outdoors environment. (My truck lives outside.) So I'd be concerned with shorts and corrosion over time.

The second is that they might be a bit fragile for a truck bed. I don't haul *that* much, and I could probably avoid banging them myself, but other people loading stuff in the bed tend to be less careful. YMMV.

My alternative thought was these Cabelas marine rope lights:

Obviously more money than your approach, but probably better when it rains.

Thanks for your response,

Just install the lights on the side high and covered by the bed rail. This way the tubes and inverter will be protected by the bed rail.

These lights are very bright (it will take a second or two to get full brightness) and very similary to a fluorescent light tube.

Give it a try. I like mine a lot. Plus the kit comes with a switch.

Typically, LED lights are not that bright unless the lamp uses 1W LEDs which will be very pricey.
