my 2000 F250 is making a strange clanking from the front passenger tire area, its making a clunk noise that sounds like a piece of metal hiting another piece of metal, it kinda sounds like a small chain is striking the underside of my truck with a little grinding mixed in also. It makes the noise randomly, sometimes when i hit a bump sometimes when im slowing down, speeding up, etc., but im not feeling any vibrations in the steering wheel, there is no resistance against the truck to go forward or reverse, it doesnt pull to the right, the brakes work fine but even though they are starting to squeak because the pads are worn but i dont think its the pads causing this. the truck doesnt sway back and forth it rides perfectly normal, but the noise doesnt sound good, nothing is hitting the underside nothing looks outa place the tire doesnt wobble, but im afraid to drive it with it making this noise
It sounds like one of two things. The front sway bar wears out and it can clunk once the bushing is gone. The other is the front right ball joints are gone. I have a similar problem and after scouring around here today apparently the Ford Balljoints have gone out in as little at 24k miles. I changed my sway bar bushing a couple months ago with a poly kit from energy suspension and it just started clunking again. I looked at the bushing and they still all look good so I will have to get it up in the air and check the balljoints. Just do a search for balljoint and you will find all kinds of info.
