How much can you go???
I just would like to know from guys who advanced the timing
on stock 351W's beyond the base 10 Degrees BTC until pinging occurs
then backing off until ping disappears if there are MPG gains,HP gains or
losses.
I'm primarily seeking better milage cause on the island of
Lanai(Maui County) gas is now past $5.00 a gallon. It's just a matter of
time for us on Maui cause we're at approx. $4.80 a gallon for Premium
now.On top of that my '93 F150 Super Cab w/351W,E40D,3:55 rear
is definitely not the greatest fuel efficient ,more like the worst efficient
ride I've owned in the last 10 years. But we've come to love this hunk
a metal and no one in my family wants to see it go,especially the wife.
Hence, my quest for more MPG's.This truck gets as much attention as
our pet Labrador(most spoiled dog in the Universe)
Would like to hear from guys who tweeked timing by ad-
vancing and the good, the bad,or ugly results obtained .This gas expense (in my daughter's own words)"sucks donkey dick"Whatever
that means.Kids nowadays--go figure!
Hope someone has positive results so Ole Betsy doesn't have to go and leave us sad and lonely!! LOL!!
Mahalos and Aloha,
CAL
good except it just recently developed a fast idle intermittently. When it does idle fast ,turning off the engine and restarting it usually fixes it and
it idles at 800RPM's.
I've replaced the plugs,dizzycap,rotor,MSD coil,seafoam through tank
as well as through intake via vacuum line and new TPS sensor. So I don't
know what else to do next.Timing is set at 10*BTC w/spout off and tires
inflated to 45PSI
and presently idling real good at 800RPM's.
I'm about to advance timing to 16*btc and see if it pings or does
anything negative operation wise.I figure it should have more getup n' go,
and hopefully more MPG's.It just doesn't figure how a truck can run so
good,is bone stock except for a K&N drop-in air filter and gets such
horrendous gas millage.
Still would like hearing from guys who tweeked timing by advancing it considerably.I've often wondered what these trucks MPG's
were('90--'96 351W's) when they were brand new.Anyone know??
I guess the quest goes on,or is this trying all in vain??
Mahalos&Aloha,
CAL
