HELP!!! What is happening? An old used Ignition Control Module had me code free for a month or two. Last weekend the Bronco would not start when hot. The ICM was the only thing not recently replaced except the PCU and ignition switch . I installed a new Motorcraft DY533 ICM today. It ran great except a little roughness at light throttle, 35mph, 1500rpm. I pulled codes and got a code 212 in continuous memory just like ICM before last. KOEO and KOER are 111, passed. Tried to run a cylinder balance test, no luck. After a few minutes the check engine light came on however, it continued running. I turned engine off in about seven minutes and touched the new IDM and it was hotter than a BBQ grill even in the remote mounted heat sink with semiconductor heat compound under the ICM. Three seconds would have burned me. I cleared the code with the code reader and ran several errands with the overhead console telling me the temp behind the headlight was 100 degrees. Good road test. Touching the ICM now I could hold fingers on it as long as I liked. No CEL but back at home I got a 212 code in CM again.
Does anyone know what years has a Computer Controled Spark (CCS) and which had the Push Start ignition system? I am having a hard time getting a new ignition control module that does not give a 212 code. I opened all the wiring harness and never found a 22K resistor so I must have the CSS system.
Oops! Should be CCD, not CCS. Computer Controlled Dwell is the correct name for my ignition system per this Ford information. Several extremely sharp Ford parts men tell me the black module is no longer available and Ford does not color code modules. All I know is the black one did not throw a 212 code and tested good per Haynes. New DY533 throws the code 212. My Bronco likes black and I can't determine which module is for the CCD system. Any ideas? Ford official info... megasquirt.sourceforge.net/<WBR>extra/doc/ford-Ignition-tfi-edit.doc
