i just got a 85 f150 for cheap. its a little rusty. the windshield wipers wont shut off. its missing the forward gas tank. and the VIN says its a 5.8 H.O. but it has a 2 bbl carb. so is this just a standard 351W? also having some starting problems. it has a 450 CCA. VW battery in it which is dead by the way. it cranks VERRY slowly or not at all when being jumped. replaced the starter selinoid and cable to the starter. had the starter tested and it passed. oh almost forgot sometimes it will continue to crank whith the key out and the "s" lead disconected. is it possible for the silinoid to stick in a low vlotage/amperage situation? i think my only other option is the batt. neg. cable and or a bad ground. well wont get to work on it till tomarrow. but i got a spare battery and some cable i think. any ideas or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

The Park circut on the motor is bad. Replacing the motor will most likely fix this.
its missing the forward gas tank.
The front tank on our trucks is the main tank, so it wont be hard to find a replacement.

It's possible to get a bad solenoid right out of the box. Infact the odds are about 50% that you will get a bad one if it's aftermarket. Less heartache to get Ford parts IMO.
Check the battery cable going from the battery to the solenoid, and the ground cable.
Also replace that battery with a good one with the right cranking amps for your engine.
