Question Intersesting problem

Hello all,

My 86' F150 is doing something real strange. It doesn't do it all the time. However, this morning on the way to work. The thing died on me 4 or five times. When it died the indicator lights would flash. I could then shift into neutral restart the engine and go back in gear and keep on going. It has done it to me once or twice before, but it always just did it once, that was a month or two ago.

Any one got any ideas? I thought maybe a bad ground. I checked it, got less than .1 ohms from battery to engine. I was also thinking that a wire might be bad that feeds either the distributor or the computer. But once again I can restart it immediately.

Please help
Thank you,
Robert E.

I would check the plugs going to the distributor. Unplug them and check for pushed back pins and corrosion.

Okay i'll check that. However, the truck runs fine 98 percent of the time.

I am thinking it might be a wire that feeds the engine computer.

On the other hand I tried to read the codes this afternoon. The unit would not pick up any codes.

Is it possible for the computer to go bad and have just some basic functions left just to run everything.

I checked the plug wires and found no corrosion.

Go here, Ford Fuel Injection and go through the checks he has for a computer that will not spit out codes, and see if you can get it to talk to you.

my truck also would not post any codes, the six pin plug was corroded. i had to cut the wires at the plug and crimp on some female connectors.
