I'm Still a FNG.
Has anyone used a soda blaster, like they sell at Eastwoods,
I've researched them, would like actual hands on info..
I started wiring on my "Toy Box" this week...
Soon will have lights and tunes
I haven't used it yet, myself....but my understanding is it will remove the paint and leave behind rust. Leaves a real smooth finish and displays where the rust is for further bodywork, IE rust removal.
We had our 60 body parts soda blasted a few years ago. It does a nice job, I watched them do some, but I have not done it myself. It is less aggressive than other blasting media, so it takes a little longer, but it doesn't stretch the metal or damage things like glass.
You need to wash the parts good with water and make sure you prepare the metal with an acidic spray before you prime.
I have the eastwood soda blaster it works good but their soda is a little pricy I got it in Houston for about 1/2 what you will pay from them. Also it comes with the sand attachment so you can do rusted parts as well with a media change. I used it for all the nooks and crannies on my truck and it worked great, DO NOT REUSE THE SODA I screened it three times and it still had flecks of paint that would clog the soda orifice. The area raound the hood hinges and door jams took about 10-15 min to blast all of the paint off if that gives you any idea of how it works. Look at the link to the pictures in my sig. to see the stripped truck.
