DIY reverse springs

Gotta Q.

I've seen over on the HAMB where the guys with 70 year old parts will take their transverse leaf springs apart, and re-work the main spring, de-arching it until the arch is backwards and re-assemble the spring pack for, voila, reverse eyed springs. There's a really well done tech article over there showing how the fella traced the curve onto the floor and worked it little by little on the press until he had mirrored the spring to the opposite direction.

Granted they are doing this on their little buggies, is this, metallurgically speaking, acceptible and if so, why couldn't we be doing this in our garage at home?

I did my rear springs that way in my garage. Very straight forward to do.

Good question...I would assume as long as it isn't tempered and become brittle....

I intend to do mine on the 400 ton cnc press brake at work. Hopefully in the next month or so.
