WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court says Americans have a right to own guns for self-defense and hunting, the justices' first definitive pronouncement on gun rights in U.S. history
FOXNews.com - Supreme Court Strikes Down D.C. Gun Ban, Upholds Right to Keep and Bear Amrs - Politics | Republican Party | Democratic Party | Political Spectrum

this is huge, because if they F'd this one up,every state that would have pursued this, would have looked at the dc case for reference, and probably followed suit.

D.C. is a very nice place to visit in the day time. As soon as dusk starts to set in you better start heading back to your hotel (unless you are in the Georgetown section).

It's nice to hear that the good citizens will be able to have hand guns in their houses and not just the criminals.

It was a 5-4 decision.

Kennedy, Scalia, Roberts, Thomas and Alito in the majority.

No. . . .kw is exactly right.
I echo his sentiment 150%. I'll add the 4th, the 5th, the 9th, the 14th, the 25th. . .awe heck. . . . The Second Amendment to the Constitution is what guarantees our RIGHT to protect the Constitution of the United States from tyranny, not only from abroad, but, from within. Every Amendment. And guarantees our right to be free in our houses and homes.

If memory serves me, what is now known as the Second Amendment WAS to be the Third, but, the framers of the Constitution knew that this was too important to 'push down the ladder' so to speak, so, they made it the Second.

Think about this. . . .
IF the Second Amendment didn't exist, WHAT would stop anyone from taking away our other Rights??

As for the Supreme Court's decision. . . . I figured 5-4. . . but was concerned that it would be 4-5.

Ummmmmmmmmmm. . . I've lived just outside of D.C. for 41 of my 54 years, and I've worked in D.C. for more than 34 of those years.

Don't think for one minute that Georgetown is safe, whether it is day or night.

I think you read it wrong.

IMHO, the right to bear arms provides our citizens the means to protect our rights to religious freedoms and freedom of speech.

It depends on who / where they were polling. As always.

Look at the organization conducting the poll

The terms of the questions, populations, even the time of day can affect the outcome of a poll. I wouldn't think CNN to be highly in favor of the results they reported, so I am surprised they even made mention of it.

All very true

But from what I have read, the Framers of the Constitution were just as worried about tyrants and government just getting out of control, the very reason some would like to see arms under strict control, IMHO.

Then, it's just easier to accomplish whatever you (the other guy) want to accomplish.
