I trying to follow the sticky "pulling the aerostar engine through the front"
But, I can't find the little plate where you remove 4nuts from the torque converter. Can any one point me in the right direction?
The plate is actually a cover of thin aluminum (or steel) wedged right between the engine and the transmission. It has a big hole in it to accommodate the starter.
However, to get to those 4 nuts on the torque converter, you only need to remove the starter, I think. By the way, I recall that it's 4 nuts that hold the torque converter and the flywheel together.
The dummy cover is the true access port, but when you are positioned at a weird angle in such a manner that doesn't suite the kind of leverage you need the starter port is helpful. The access port is actually cut for correct tool to nut application (straight on) where as when accessing the nuts through the starter port the sheet metal overlaps the nut by an 1/8th of an inch. Simply install the socket/ratchet set-up at an angle and then as you straighten your tool set up the metal will bend slightly out of your way. This is okay and then when going back up simply us a 90 degree bent pair of pliers for the reverse order.----Good Luck--Boz
