Unhappy 5.8 to Inline 6

The 5.8 locked up on me in my 91 E.Bower Bronco. I'm thinking about an inline 6. I know there will be some mods but it may not be worth the hassle.
I dont have alot of money and the inline 6 is $300 or should I go with a 302 out of a crown victoria for $400 to save myself the trouble? I shouldnt have to chnge my injector harness with the 302 should I? IDK I just want a little input and if you think the 6 is a good idea throw me some easy mod tips. Thanx

Any and all repsponses will be greatly appreciated.

Yeah... The I6 is a better truck motor. BUT......... You need the computer, engine wiring harness, motor mounts, exhaust, and more I can't think of at the moment to get the I6 to work. A 5.0 will bolt up and run with the existing computer and wiring harness, engine mounts, and exhaust.. after the Y-pipe is narrowed about an inch. It's a step down from the 5.8 for sure, but it will be a LOT easier to install and get working. A 5.0 truck intake would eliminate a couple other headaches, but the car intake can be used if you flip around the upper.

Oh.. that's a pain. You will have to remove the tranny I suspect unless you want to strip the motor enough to free up whatever caused it to sieze.

Theredicly yes I beleave. the tourqe converter bolts to the flexplate just as a clutch assembly bolts to the flywheel. So I beleave if you have enough room infront of the engine to pull the engine out of the Bronco, that would be easer to do it that way and just leave the tranny and t-case and all of the drivetrain bolted up.

Just a thought but your 351W/5.8L and also the 302/5.0L is interfearence engines. So if the timing chain goes, the whole vavetrain stops while the crank keeps turning and so your going to bend the valves and really screw up your top end. That may be why your engine ceased up on you. Or it might be another problem. Or water might have gottin into your cylender and sence water can't compress, your engine stops truning.
That is what haponed to my 300 I-6 in my 84 Bronco. So I swaped to a 302. Almost done just the minor things now such as puting the hoses on and timing her.

And then you could pull the heads off and should be able to frely rotate the engine and get the converter off along with the flexplate.

I don't know about the 351W's but the 302's are externaly ballanced. A 91 302 should be 50oz externaly ballanced flywheel and or flexplate.

I would have to disagree, its just termonology. They do the same thing. Some old miss and hit engines that run belts to drive old farm equipment had fly wheels... and they didnt have a manual transmission...

The purpose of a flywheel/flex plate is to add mass to the rotating assembly to make it continue to turn over. Inertia basically. Call it what you want, they both do the same thing, they just have added some features to them to allow them to hook up to a manual transmission or an auto.

Chill out bud

My vote is for another 5.8l , i think its a better motor, and is there any fuel savings?
