reddog - sounds like you really like this truck, a couple more thoughts...
What's the .99 gas deal they're offering? Is it really a benefit, or do you have to do so much that it would never be worth it? (Like $75 oil changes every 1000 miles.) If it's something that will cost them, you might point out that you're returning to KY soon and won't be using that program, so that will be saving them money. They also say that they offer a bumper-bumper warranty, so you can get all those problems you noted fixed. Then again, you can tell them you're heading cross the country so you won't be hitting them up for warranty items after that. (Not sure when you're leaving though).
So there's a couple possible items you could point out that might allow them to accept your offer, if they're motivated. And it sounds like they should be...
Reddog, used truck prices have fell alot. I bought my wifes 04 in my sig for 18K with 49k on the odometer, it was owned by a dr. and I talked to him. this truck looked like brand new inside and out and 4 months earlier when I looked at it they wanted 33k for it. I told them I'd go 18 and it took a few weeks but they finally called me and told me to come get it. This economy blows bad and from everything I have been reading its going to get worse yet, world banks are starting to warn of a possible global recession, Ford and GM are cutting back truck production. The latest estimate for high crude prices this summer is now 170 a barrel, time is on your side if you can wait them out.
Herdsman, that was anouther dealership. This si the firstr truck I looked at, GoCJack.com, No Credit Auto Loans, Find A Vehicle and yes i do like it. I should just go home and start workin ebay, just got the bug i guess. I am going to ask about the repairs, and i think when i call I am just going to ask for manager, play my military card, and see if he will tellme where we are really at.
oh the .99 deal was worth less then 900,
Based on 1,000 miles driven per month at an average 24mpg/$4.00 per gallon fixed for all Dealer inventory. Customer to pay $.99 cents per gallon, Dealer to pay difference. Total Dealer contribution equals $876.92. All promotional incentives are based on Dealer retail pricing. No other offers or incentives will be included. $.99 cent Fuel Promotion will only be valid with dealer retail pricing. Any discounts from Dealer retail pricing will void the $.99 cent Fuel Promotion. Offer is only valid with the purchase of a vehicle. This promotion expires at 12:01 A.M. on the morning of January 1, 2009.
All of those cheap/free fuel deals appear to be scams......pay more for the "free gas" than is you just bought the vehicle out-right.
Usually yes, but they're not without "value". I like to ask them all kinds of questions about those deals (the last one I was hit with was "free tires for life"), the salesman will go on and on about how great they are and how much they are worth... then you ask them to keep the deal and deduct half the "value" from the cash price. They never will, but it can put them off balance a bit.
well icalled them yesterday asked for manager, none there, only one salesman and sec. So i asked sec about waranty, 15 days 500 miles, so i ask what it covers, she says everything, so i'm like what about the things i found wrong with it, she says they will fix those the day before i take it, really, or they will discount the price.
So i say let me talk to salesman, he's on the lot, ok take my number have him call me, ok, nothing.
Today I am calling asking for mananger. Tell him , i been trying to buy this truck for weeks, and no salesman was willing to take my money, and i just wanted to let him , know they lost a sale at a time when big trucks are not selling....
....probably not crap. With only ONE salesperson to keep tabs on, the MANAGER should have a pretty good idea what is really going on.
Sounds like they think they have a monopoly on their market (if you want one...you HAVE to buy it from them). Screw that! Walk away from there and find somebody else to deal with that wants your money.
Walk away, you already seem to desperate. At this point they know you WANT the truck. If you call again, they might start raising the price up.
Walk away from the deal. There are plenty of trucks for sale out there. You will find another one that you like better, just give it some time.
Always remember one thing. Auto Dealership salesmen sell cars for a living. You don't buy cars for a living. If they want to eat and feed their family, they will sell you a car, at the price you are willing to pay. If you don't BUY that truck, you are still going to eat tomorrow. Eventually, they will get hungry enough.
If someone else walks in and buys it, so be it, it wasn't meant to be. Most people looking for trucks are looking for deals, and most are looking for trucks to work or tow. That style you are looking at, lifted, etc, are probably moving the slowest of all.
Don't call back, start looking elsewhere, or just stop looking. At that moment, they will call looking for some money to pay the rent.
well sales manager called me. After a few back and forths, and me telling him how they lost the sale, we are now at 10,5 with trade. As-is. Just waiting right now for call back on doc fess and tax. He said i had to pay 8.3% az tax, so i called ky, to see what i have to pay when i get home, they said 6%, but that AZ should not charge me tax because i am non-resident.
So i called back and asked manager to check on tax, because if i have to pay twice i aint doin it. if he finds out ky is right I am looking at 10,790.
I am thinking saying yes, they fix windshield, i fix everything else, and i keep my toolbox.
I do need to find some steps, i'm to short to get in out every day without something. and need drivers blind spot mirror,
And i know i can fix door locks cheap, so lookin like I might be drivin a differant truck soon.
well, they dropped some more.. taxes in az are 8.3 vs ky 6. When i complained about that they dropped anouther 900 off, to cover taxes ,and said they would get me their rate on windshield.. I ask if they would split windshield cost, no, they ran the numbers while we were talking and said dropping the 900 would more then cover taxes, and still leave me enough to replace glass. so we made a deal. 10846 out the door. I guess i now own a 2001 cc sb 4x4 vt xlt.

reddog - congrats on getting the truck you wanted. And it should be a good rust-free one as you pointed out earlier.
A good lesson in pushing for the taxes too - if you just asked them to drop $900 they'd cry like you were taking food out of their baby's mouth. But when the price drop is needed to make a deal, it comes off the bottom line in a hurry, no hesitation.
Nice going - you got the truck you want and they got one less hard-to-sell vehicle on their lot...
are you saying you paid taxes in Mi but live in IL, and when you got to IL they didnt charge you becuase you had paid in MI??
I thought it worked like that as well, thats why i called ky, they didnt say that that was not so, but i am sure they do it that way. But in our little co, they probably never get that. If they dont, i may goto the next co that handles ft campbell, and i am sure i will get a differant story. Who knows, oe of my best friends is our co clerk, so I'll ask him when i get home.
