351W Installation Questions

I am trying to get ready to fire up a 351W in my "50 F1. I connected the upper and lower radiator hoses today and noticed there are two nipples in the water pump on the upper left quadrant. The is a similar nipple in the thermostat housing just to the left of the large neck. I know hoses attached to these ports but can anyone fill me in with more detail.

Also, when I removed the distributor, I marked the positioning on the block but being the newbie I am I tried to turn over the crank with the plugs remove to test things out. Now I am cooked. What can I do to get things lined up again.

Any help is appreciated.

Those hose outlets go to the heater core via the firewall.

Just turn the engine by hand until the timing mark is just past 0* on the #1 compression stroke. With the valve cover off it's easy enough to figure out. Then just mark the #1 terminal on the dizzy and install with the rotor on your mark.

Any idea on the one nipple next to the large radiator hose outlet on the thermostat housing?

IIRC, there's one on the manifold that goes to the heater core. Then another hose back from the heater core to the pump, and a small ell-shaped hose from the thermostat housing to the pump as well.

I thought the lower of the two on the water pump goes to the heater core. I guess not. Where is the fitting on the manifold for the hose to the core?

Okay, you are correct - the lower WP connection goes to the heater core and the upper uses a short ell-shaped hose to connect to a fitting next to the radiator hose coming off the neck on the intake manifold. Behind the WP neck on the manifold is a tapped opening into the water passage, there should be a hose fitting there that connects to the heater core. The tapped opening on the other (driver's) side of the manifold is for the temp sending unit.

That is the last piece of info I needed Baron. Thanks a bunch. By the way, when I fire it up, do you think I can just loop from the lower W/P fitting to the manifold until I install my heater.
