Stock radio with 6-CD changer on 2000 Excursion Ltd.
My manual doesn't say anything about the RDS button, and at least in Europe RDS means it will automatically stay tuned to the current station even if the frequency changes while you drive.
But when I hit the RDS button it asks me to select hour then minutes...
I believe RDS is for Radio Data System. My bro has this on his kenwood. It can bring up the stations name, call letters, genre, etc, (station has to be transmitting this info ). It can also on some radios, set the time, date, give traffic info and lots of other cool stuff. (again, only if the station is broadcasting this info)
I just bought a '98 and haven't played around with the AM/FM/cassette too much but it does have the RDS button. I
have the "Audio Guide" from Ford. It says "This feature allows your system to receive text information from RDS-equipped FM radio stations"
Traffic: 1) Press the RDS control until TRAFFIC is displayed
2)Use the SEL to select ON or OFF. With the feature on, use the SEEK or SCAN control to find a radio station broadcasting a traffic report.(it is broadcasting RDS data)
You can also set the clock with this feature:
1)Press RDS control until CLOCK HOUR or CLOCK MINUTE displayed
2) USE the SEL control to set the time. Press SEL up arrow to increase hours/minutes. SEL down arrow to decrease hours/minutes.
