i bought a freshly rebuilt 1980 302 checked it out and the bearings were bad .one crank journal was also bad i thought maybe from dirt or something. so i got a new crank same casting as one that was in it i put new crank in then realized it is a 2mae casting wrong imbalance 50 oz .now i dont know can i just get the 50 oz flywheel /balancer cause the rods are different or do i have to take the loss and get the older 20 oz crank
Your flywheel can cause problems, but what is the motor doing. If it is "waivering" vibration then it is more likely to be a bad "Harmonic Balancer". If so, grab the outer ring of balancer and try to move back and forth, if any movement by a new one immediatly before you do end up with crank problems. Summit and Jegs sells good replacements (I always got improper balance with Ford OEM balancers when the engines were changed from stock). My motor started vibrating slightly, then got worse, then I thought my fenders were going to fall off, changed harmonic balancer (not flywheel), now runs like a 40 year old kitten, but is mean with my foot in the carburetor. Good luck. I don't know how to work this site yet. I can't find my own question.
